The Restorative Police Force

Whole-Department restorative practices COLLABORATION

Restorative Justice is an approach to wrongdoing that seeks to repair harm by providing an opportunity for those harmed and those who take responsibility for the harm to communicate their experience and their needs within a larger gathering of community members.

“Even considering all aspects of the job, our officers continue to place red tape above all other dangers. It’s the thing warning us not to reach out from the heart, not to help someone in need.”

RESULTS OF the restorative Policing Fast Track (9 Weeks) :

  1. Police will increasingly apply Restorative Justice strategies to respond to policing problems.

  2. The locus of Restorative Practices training will move from the precinct into local school buildings. Officers will learn restorative alongside teachers, students and community members, forging the very relationships needed to sustain the initiative.

  3. Create and lean on a Restorative Coalition made up of local Families, Teachers and Elders to whom juvenile cases will be increasingly deferred too.
